Zhao Chunli, a 66-year-old farmworker, pleaded not guilty on Thursday to seven counts of murder and one charge of attempted murder in the January mass shooting.
The state is still reeling from back-to-back attacks that left at least 19 people dead. The killings have spurred lawmakers to call for more regulations.
