Is the U.S. Economy Growing or Not?

One economic measure had it flailing. The other had it doing just fine.

Officials have tried to ditch a shorthand definition for what constitutes a recession and reassure skeptical voters about the U.S. economy.

The U.S. may register a second straight quarter of economic contraction, one benchmark of a recession. But that won’t be the last word.

Some economists warned that the American Rescue Plan would be inflationary. Others, like me, were fairly relaxed.
