The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial’s ground breaking occurred 25 years ago when a group of concerned residents decided to bridge the social gaps which troubled the Norristown Community.
This is a wonderful open air monument which have been used as a gather place the community ever since. The memorial park consists of an amphitheater with five full columns, seating, lights, magnolia trees, picnic tables, gazebo and a wonderful water fountain and play area for the children.
We are hoping to increase and beautify this area even more. We will be adding a bronze plaque of Dr. King attached to a brick facade at the point of entry to his area. There has been an undertaking which incorporated additional trees and soon flowers to further add beauty and spendor.
Future improvements have not been decided, however additional amphitheater seating would be great with some flood lighting to provide additional safety. Many of these things will take some time, but we are dedicated to making it happen.
The future is now and we are challenging the community to support our efforts along with helping us to keep Dr Kings dream alive.
